Sinopsis

Starring a naive bird and an ingenious rabbit, "The Red Staircase" is a fun album for pre-readers and early readers that stands out for the simplicity of its aesthetic, figurative proposal and with a sequential approach.
One part of the story is cumulative, as it lists actions and elements that are repeated consecutively in an ascending and descending direction, posing a mnemonic game. On a narrative level, it presents a simple vocabulary that is complemented with antonyms that lead the reading to a conclusion where logic and humor come together.
Compared to the tenacity of the rabbit, the attitude of the bird has to do with the lack of confidence in its own ability to achieve a goal. Fernando Pérez Hernando proposes to think about the essence of things and people by reminding us of the number of complications and detours that we take -hence the symbolic nature of the ladder- to achieve what we could obtain in a simple way if we had more security in ourselves.
As frames, the illustrations -made with temperas and colored pencils- follow a cinematographic pattern. The intense tones, the alternation of close-ups and long shots, and the nods to fantasy complete this charming story with an autobiographical background.
