«Dear reader, before entering a discussion on the interpretation of the façade of the University of Salamanca please allow me some time to say a few words about regarding I am about to tell you and interpret without furnishing any further explanation. The façade you will be reading of has been interpreted in many different ways, although today ther is a certain consensus as regards many of the aspects that we shall be looking at. Nevertheless, there is no complete agreement amog the various authors ande there are still differences in the interpretation of the facts.»
