Sinopsis
Arantza Margolles Beran says of this publication: “Oviedo is that city where nothing is what it seems, and yet everything has its own particular explanation; where everything merges, everything intersects and intertwines in the succession of centuries that make up its ancient history. A difficult task, then, though thrilling, to recount its past and its twists and turns from the times when convents and churches gave way to palaces, revolts, queens and kings, parks, statues, and—why not say it—also to excellent food. But nothing is beyond the reach of those illustrious figures, Juanjo Arrojo and his camera. This masterful pair will guide you through the capital of the Principality, just as many others did long ago: Máximo and Fromestano; Juaca Bobela and Marica Andallón; Urraca and Gontrodo; Feijoo and Casal, Ramiro I and Paterna… All of them will be the best companions imaginable for this journey through the history and landscapes of the capital of Asturias.
Juanjo Arrojo (Turón, 1950) is a photographer and a scholar of Asturias. A self-taught photographer, his interest in images led him to begin his photographic career in the 1970s. By the beginning of the following decade, he was already a recognized professional, and his passion for Asturias led him to explore this land extensively, studying its light, natural landscapes, people and their trades, and traditions.
